A Whitman-Hanson Regional High School student, who was described as a female between the ages of 16 and 19 years old by MBTA Transit Police, died at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 30, according to Transit Police Superintendent Richard Sullivan.
The teenager was intentionally trespassing into the train's right of way and was hit and killed by an outbound train on the Plymouth line, around 1,000 yards south of Whitman Station.
She was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Whitman Police and Fire Departments.
The teenager was identified as a student at Whitman-Hanson Regional High School by District Superintendent Jeffrey Szymaniak on Wednesday.
“We are all tremendously saddened to hear of this tragic loss. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of this student and all those who knew them,” Szymaniak said.
The student, whose name has not been released, also had ties to East Bridgewater High School, Szymaniak said.
The incident is under investigation by the Massachusetts State Police Detectives assigned to the Plymouth County District Attorney’s Office and MBTA Transit Police.
